Avandia Background:
Avandia (Rosiglitazone) is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. Avandia is a prescribed drug that treats Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus. Patients are prescribed Avandia to help control and regulate their blood sugar levels.

Avandia was approved by the FDA for use in 1999. In 2007, the FDA required GlaxoSmithKline to revise its Black Box warning. The upgraded warning stated that Avandia has been “associated with an increased risk of myocardial ischemic events such as angina or myocardial infarction.” The FDA also requested that GlaxoSmithKline conduct a long-term study to evaluate the potential cardiovascular risk of Avandia.
